Guatemala 2021: Day 3

We had a great day today. It started with our driver not showing up but a few calls later we had a new driver arrive and off we went in the back of a truck to Santa Elena. It is a small village way back in the mountains. We saw 98 extremely friendly Guatemalans. We had to use 2 sets of interpreters as most spoke K'chie which was translated to Spanish then English. We saw lots of worms, aches and pains, a man with wounds on his arm, and a lady with a blood sugar so high it just read HIGH on the glucometer. Rotten teeth were everywhere when they took off their masks to leave so toothbrushes and toothpaste for all. The team did great and even had a fantastic sense of humor when we got thoroughly drenched on the way home. The driver offered to put a tarp on the truck AFTER we were wet to the skin. Fortunately, it is warm here!
